It has been a heartbreaking week for those of us in Southern California who love that Mexican and Latino immigrants are part of our communities. President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to raid homes, construction sites, Home Depot stores, farms, car washes, swap-meets, and other places of business in California seeking to arrest and deport undocumented individuals. Consequently, community members expressed concern Mexican fans fearing or protesting deportations would not attend CONCACAF’s Gold Cup 2025 opening match between Mexico and Dominican Republic at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood California on Saturday June 14th, 2025.

LAFC defeated America 2-1 in FIFA’s Club World Cup qualifying match on Saturday, May 31st, 2025 at BMO Stadium in downtown Los Angeles, California. The exciting match went into overtime with LAFC’s Denis Bouanga kicking in the game winner at the 115th minute. The teams played for the final spot in the tournament to replace Leon of Mexico’s Liga MX. Leon was removed from the tournament for a multi-club ownership violation.

LAFC was defeated by Austin FC 1-0 at home on Saturday, March 15, 2025. The poor gameplay by both teams made it difficult to focus my coverage on the play of the Mexican-American players on either side, LAFC’s Mark Delgado and Austin FC’s Brandon Vazquez. I take this opportunity to inform you about each of these exemplary players of our community.

On Tuesday February 11th, 2025, I drove north on Figueroa Street towards BMO Stadium in downtown Los Angeles to cover Los Angeles Football Club versus Club America, the reigning threepeat champions of Mexico’s Liga BBVA MX league. The Mexican champions brought out thousands of their local fans causing heavy traffic; drivers abruptly forced their way into the only Martin Luther King Boulevard lane into the stadium. Local vendors smiled ingratiating themselves to potential customers, including the ubiquitous hot dog vendors, some accompanied by their young children.

Seattle Sounders FC came into BMO Stadium Saturday November 23rd, 2024 to defeat LAFC with a score of 2-1 to advance to the MLS Western Conference Final. The 4th seeded Sounders eliminated the West’s number one seed. They came back from a one goal deficit following a right footed shot to the back of their net by LAFC’s Ryan Hollingshead at the 50th minute mark.

Professional Bull Riders (PBR) headquartered in Pueblo, Colorado has over 800 bull rider members from around the world, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the United States. The members compete in events like Unleash The Beast, Pendleton Whiskey Velocity Tour, and since June 2022, the PBR Camping World Team Series.

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) tied 2-2 with Vancouver Whitecaps on Tuesday July 30th, 2024 at BMO Stadium in downtown Los Angeles, California. The game was decided on penalties with Vancouver scoring 4 to LAFC’s 2. LAFC advances to the Leagues Cup round of 32 with this result.

LAFC tied Real Salt Lake with a score of 1-1 on Wednesday July 17th, 2024. Cristian Olivera scored the LAFC goal early in the game at about the 5 minute mark. Brayan Vera would tie the game for Real Salt Lake with his free kick at the 33rd minute of the first half. His shot darted off LAFC’s Ilie Sanchez, beyond the reach of French World Cup winning goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, and into the net.

Today, Rolling Loud announces the first wave of their star-studded lineup for the second annual Rolling Loud Thailand, touching down in the Land of Smiles later this year. The Red Bull Skate team describes their Red Bull Origin event as a celebration of the rich history and vibrant culture of skateboarding that originated in Venice, California. The three day event that began May 31st and concluded June 2nd, 2024 consisted of skateboarding competitions with a prize pool of $50,000, the Artful Dodgers art show at Rose Room, and a community skate day.
