America Femenil earned a victory over Chivas Femenil with a 4-3 score in their exhibition match on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, California. The women played a competitive, exciting, and entertaining game in front of several thousand supporters. Montserrat Saldivar scored the game winner that broke the 3-3 tie with a bending free kick resulting from a hard, red card tackle.
From a Chicano perspective, Saldivar, her teammates, and her opponents should be celebrated for being exemplary athletes for young Chicanas. For the match’s opening ceremony, the players walked onto the field of play paired with young girls. Those young girls shared in the experience of women who looked like them living out their dreams, including listening to the American and Mexican national anthems that gave the game a sense of importance. Because the game was televised on Estrella TV, Chicanas at home could watch these women playing in one of the biggest venues in the LA area.
The players delivered a great game. It was one of the most entertaining, men or women’s, ones I’ve covered in 2025. The Chicano community has the opportunity to continue to support the players by attending their games. By attending, we give our daughters examples of women they can become and contribute economically to cultural institutions of value. I invite readers to attend more Liga Mx Feminil games and Angel City FC games. Angel City FC is a professional soccer team of the National Women’s Soccer League based in Los Angeles. They play their home games at BMO Stadium.
