LAFC hosted Austin FC on Wednesday, October 29th, 2025 at their BMO Stadium in downtown Los Angeles, California for the first round of best-of-3 series of the 2025 MLS playoffs. The third seeded LAFC earned the 2-1 victory over the fifth seeded Austin FC. Mexican American midfielder #8 Mark Delgado started the game and played well alongside Korean superstar #7 Son Heung-Min.

LAFC scored first with a great individual play by #24 Ryan Hollingshead inside the box. He cut back with his right foot leaving his former teammate #6 Ilie Sanchez flatfooted before scoring his shot that deflected between Austin FC’s keeper #1 Brad Stuve’s legs into the net. Austin FC’s #7 Jon Gallagher tied the game with a left-footed shot from the center box. And at the 74th minute, the young Mexican-Salvadorean-American #27 Nathan Ordaz chipped in the ball into the net following a deflected shot by teammate #99 Denis Bouanga that was set up by #7 Heung Min Son. It was a fun match to watch and the crowd helped create a playoff atmosphere with their cheers and chants.

Son’s impact on LAFC is demonstrated on the field with his play in today’s victory and their 6-2-1 record since acquiring him. His impact off the field is demonstrated by LAFC’s incorporation of Korean culture, including Korean chef Roy Choi’s Kogi food installation, increased presence of Korean and Korean-American fans at BMO Stadium, and increased presence of Korean and Korean-American media in the press booth. Outside the stadium, LAFC celebrates Son with a mural by artist Dave Young Kim in Koreatown, Los Angeles, California on the side of the Crosby Building at Wilshire Boulevard and Catalina Street.
